Latest Updates from Our Project:

Stretch Goal #5
over 6 years ago – Tue, Oct 01, 2019 at 07:03:41 PM

Four more promo cards are in the barn...yes, that Barn.

HOWEVER, a penalty flag has been thrown across the pond from fair Lancashire into my lap. I was informed that Sherlock Holmes is not, as his photo indicates, "a smart American detective," which I will speculate is the basest of insults. I have tasked this gentlemen with seeking out a more representative 19th century photo. We shall judge him strictly.

As mentioned, new stretch goals are on the way this weekend.

Thanks all!

Mid-Campaign Grab Bag
over 6 years ago – Tue, Oct 01, 2019 at 02:31:40 PM

No flowery prose here. Time to take care of some business, rapid-fire:

Storage System Stretch Goal in Reach

We are 99 ratings away from our stretch goal of the box storage system presented in Update #14. If you have not rated the game on BoardGameGeek or recorded your KS pledge with a pending rating, please do (here's how). We are close!

New Promo Card Stretch Goal

Check out the stretch goal section for the next round of 4 promo cards along with a diary today introducing Sir Charles Fitzwilliam, Bt. The last four promos will go up this weekend along with two new stretch goals (non-card related).

BGG Contest and Campaign Finish

We are in the mid-month quiet time before the campaign finishes, so it appears the new stretch goals will be difficult to reach. Note, however, that almost all campaigns follow the same crowdfunding pattern (a symmetric bimodal histogram—statisticians correct me if I am wrong):

First Obsession Campaign
Current Upstairs, Downstairs Campaign

There are exceptions, but this is the norm; even million dollar projects tend to follow this pattern:

First 7th Continent Campaign

So every stretch goal < 180K will be VERY much in reach! And we are not sitting still.

There will be a BoardGameGeek contest starting on Friday. Those contests usually result in a game climbing the Hotness bar (on the left side of the home page). Upstairs, Downstairs will also be featured in the BGG Crowdfunding Weekly mass emailing shortly after that. And saturation advertising is planned for the last two days of the campaign.

Tableau Obsession—A New Obsession Game

I will be a little delayed with the rules and round track PnP PDF that I promised would accompany the Tableau Obsession playthrough video posted on the KS page on Sunday (presented below). This is a variation on the base game of Obsession that focuses on building your estate in a race to MAX reputation. It is a 15-20 minute game when 7 reputation is the MAX. Very tense!

Solo Estate Challenge—A New Solo Game

I will be posting a complete playthrough of the Solo Estate Challenge this weekend, which is different from the game in the video above. It's my new, favourite solo variation, and I think experienced Obsession players will LOVE this.

Travel—Limited Communication

I will be traveling the next two days and my response time to KS messages, emails, and comments will be slower than normal (I will get to you!). Also, after updating the $115,000 stretch goal later today, I will not be posting until Thursday.

Thanks, as always!

Box Storage System Video
over 6 years ago – Sun, Sep 29, 2019 at 07:06:00 PM

Below is a rough video I shot showing the prototype for the Box Storage System Stretch Goal. There are three guiding principles to this system:

  • The system must accommodate sleevers and non-sleevers alike
  • The system must accommodate horizontal and vertical storage
  • The system must accommodate a wide variety of storage styles (by family, by player count, by component, etc.)
  • NOTE: Folded Space, GameTrayz, or a similar 3rd party system are outside the scope of this campaign

There are two important issues, however. The storage system will prevent me from beating my March 2020 fulfillment deadline; I had hoped to fulfill in February. (This is still a much better timeline than a 3rd party system.)

Secondly, my ideal system as seen in the video has a significant price tag. I am getting the final details, but I want everyone watching the video to know that this is a prototype idea and subject to change if the final accounting does not work out (for example, a reduction in the number of boxes). I will NOT change the stretch goal or push the goal further out; this project WILL have a storage system, and a good one. The question is the number of boxes (and quantity is where the cost lies).

So, the purpose of this update is to hear from all of you regarding the concept. That feedback + Panda's analysis will help me finalize a storage system that meets the three goals above.

Thanks!

A New Non-Revenue Stretch Goal—the Storage System Returns!
over 6 years ago – Thu, Sep 26, 2019 at 07:54:30 PM

Posted in the daily diary, re-presented here so that everyone is aware! This storage system is going to be beautiful! Video coming hopefully on Sunday. You'll be able to store it vertically, horizontally, or in a tree.

I am very proud that there are no artificial reviews in the Obsession BGG rating. I've seen what has happened with Tapestry and Unbroken and other BGG firestorms where reviews aren't reviews. I would ask for only accurate, heartfelt reviews.

Thanks! Excited about these boxes!

Bulk Order Pledge Level Now Active
over 6 years ago – Thu, Sep 26, 2019 at 07:26:59 PM

Thank you to those who've been waiting to place bulk orders! A level bundling six Queen Victoria pledges at an additional 10% discount is now live (for a total of 31% discount off MSRP).

I actually remembered to turn off the shipping (d'oh), so that will be properly charged in the pledge manager; the shipping rates are mentioned and those rates are discounted (and will not increase with the 2020 rates come out).

For Bulk orders beyond six games, I would ask that you pledge the 6-game level and then contact me directly for additional games and discounts, which will be handled in the pledge manager after the campaign. I can't really make a dozen bulk pledges for every count (i.e., 10, 12, 15, 20), and I don't think there will be more than 2 or 3 of those; best to handle those unique situations directly.

Thank you for your patience!
